St. Clair storage facility catches fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 5:30 AM on Sunday, October 27, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched fire units to the Port Carbon Saint Clair Highway and South Mill Street in East Norwegian Township for a reported structure fire at the St. Clair Self Storage.  The initial alarm included the East Norwegian Twp. Fire Department, St. Clair Engine 702 (Alert/Columbia), Port Carbon Engine 59-11 and Pottsville City Engines 41 and 62 and Ladder 21.

Pottsville City Chief 5 was the first unit in the area and reported a well involved structure fire that was spreading, all units would be going to work.  Engine 59-11 was the first engine on scene and requested the next due engine secure a water supply.  Tanker 08-31 secured a hydrant at the entrance to the facility while Ladder 21 set up next to the tanker.  An aggressive attack was made on the fire which was knocked down within the hour.

St. Clair Ladder 703 was requested to the scene for an additional truck company and Pottsville Engine 72 was requested for their cascade.  By daybreak units were wrapping up and clearing the scene.  A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was requested to the scene to investigate the cause.
