Two jump from Pottsville house fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Around 11:15 AM on Saturday, November 17 the Pottsville Fire Department was dispatched to 101 North 16th Street in the City for a house fire with entrapment.  Responding crews were advised of two people reportedly trapped in the house.

Units arrived to find heavy fire to the rear of a three story duplex.  Fire had consumed almost the entire “C” side of the house and heavy smoke was pushing from the windows.  Two people had jumped from upper floors to escape from the heat and flames.

Engines 32, 41 and 11 took the address while Engine 62 secured a water supply and Ladders 21 and 51 staged behind the engines.  Lines were stretched and the fire was quickly knocked down and ventilation was started.  The fire was under control in fifteen minutes.  Both occupants of the home that jumped were transported to tertiary care facilities via aeromedical.
