Deadly accident shuts down Route 61

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Shortly before 12:30 PM on Wednesday, November 14, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Fire District 4 (Fountain Springs and Lavelle), Ashland Rescue 38-50, Ashland EMS and Shenandoah ALS to 770 Fountain Street in Butler Township for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.

First responding units were advised of an accident involving a car under a porch and a person pinned underneath a mail delivery truck.  Frackville Rescue Engine 43-10 was added to the alarm with the additional information received.

Engines 4-10 and 4-12 arrived on the scene to find a passenger car that had severe front end damage resting below a high porch.  They also found a person that had been ejected near a mail delivery truck.  The ejected individual was found to be deceased upon arrival.

A line was stretched off Engine 4-12 for protection while crews mitigated hazards on the vehicle.  Engine 43-10 positioned on the East side of the accident while Rescue 38-50 stayed to the West.  Crews found there was no entrapment in either of the vehicles.

The two drivers of the vehicles were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.  Butler Township Police had Fountain Street shut down while they conducted their investigation of the accident.
