Driver finds himself “hanging by a wire” in Alburtis

LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – At 22:52 hours on Saturday, March 5, Lehigh County dispatched Station 1 (Alburtis), Rescue 2541 (Trexlertown) and EMS 66 (Macungie) to 112 North Main Street in Alburtis for a motor vehicle accident with rescue.

Rescue 141 responded immediately upon the dispatch and was advised of a one vehicle accident, car into a pole, with one person still in the vehicle.

Chief 2501 and Rescue 2541 responded and were advised that police were on scene with a car suspended on a guide wire with the male driver still in the vehicle.

Crews arrived to find the passenger car hanging on the guide wire and quickly assessed the situation. The male appeared to be uninjured and was not physically trapped in the vehicle.

Main Street Command was established and requested Rescue 2541 put their rescue struts to work and stabilize the vehicle. Personnel also controlled fluids leaking from the car.

After ten minutes of securing the vehicle, the driver was finally able to exit the car using a folding ladder to reach the ground. He was then evaluated by EMS personnel and was found to have no injuries.

Firefighters remained on scene for an hour cleaning up the scene and standing by while towing removed the vehicle.
