LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – At 7:30 PM on Tuesday, October 16, APTS Medic 11D was responding to an EMS call when it came upon a motor vehicle accident at State Route 924 and Interstate 81 in Hazle Township. Medic 11D was reporting a tractor trailer had broad-sided a pickup truck in the intersection. Hazle Twp. Fire, who was already operating at a large structure fire less than a mile away, was dispatched on the assist.
Engine 103 and Rescue 101 responded from the fire and arrived to find a pick-up with heavy damage and the patient self-extricated in care of EMS. Fire crews controlled hazards and waited for police to investigate the accident. EMS requested aeromedical to transport the patient to a local trauma center. Harwood Fire set up a landing zone behind their station for MedEvac 4.
