Orwigsburg celebrates 125 years

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, October 13, the Friendship Hose Company #1 of Orwigsburg celebrated 125 years of service to the community.  The festivities were kicked off with an apparatus parade through the borough.  Residents came out to wave to firefighters and check out the units from throughout Schuylkill County.  After the parade, visiting firefighters and residents came to the firehouse and enjoyed food and refreshments along with music provided by a disc jockey.  A small ceremony was emceed by Jesse Zimmerman, 1st Assistant Chief.  Zimmerman thanked everyone in attendance as well as the residents and government leaders for their continued support.  A blessing was given by Fire Police Officer Deb Shepler.  A few words were then given by Chief Dave Hardinger.  Next, plaques were given to all companies in attendance as a thank you.  Zimmerman concluded the ceremony by inviting everyone to hang out and have some food and enjoy some refreshments to help celebrate the company’s milestone.  The Friendship Hose Company was founded in 1887 and provides fire and rescue services to Orwigsburg Borough and surrounding townships.  The company operates two engines and a heavy rescue from their station on Liberty Street.
