Sugarloaf dwelling fire hits second alarm

LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – Around 2:30 PM on Monday, April 23, Luzerne County was notified by a Sugarloaf Fire Company portable of a structure fire on Twin Lane in Sugarloaf.  The portable reported there was smoke showing from a house.  The box was immediately dispatched for Sugarloaf Fire and EMS.

Sugarloaf Chief arrived on the scene and confirmed a working fire in a two-story single family dwelling with an attached garaged.  Due to the time of day and low staffing levels, a second alarm was requested to the scene bringing in units from Valley Regional, Hazle Twp., West Hazleton, Nuremberg-Weston, Foster Township and Nescopeck.

Hazle Twp. Tower-Ladder 7 was the first unit on the street and was advised to take the driveway.  Sugarloaf engine responded and was directed to stretch through the front door and attack the fire on the second floor.  As the line was being stretched the tower arrived and was redirected to stretch a second line and assist with the fire attack.

Crews found fire in the second floor and began to knock the fire.  Additional crews arrived and were sent inside.  West Hazleton arrived and served as the RIT team.

The bulk of the fire was darkened down within twenty minutes of the first units arrival.  Overhaul was performed and crews began to pick-up.  Second alarm companies were released within the hour with first due crews remaining on scene for an investigation.
