Building burns at Upper Macungie farm

LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – After 10:00 PM on Wednesday, December 28, Lehigh County 9-1-1 dispatched the box to 852 Independent Road in Upper Macungie Township for the reported building fire.

Initial responding units were given a report that police were on scene of a pole building with smoke showing in close proximity to a barn.  Extra tankers from both Lehigh and Berks Counties were quickly added to the box.

Crews arrived to find a large pole building heavily involved in fire.  A defensive attack was immediately initiated to battle the fire.  Trexlertown Tanker 2531, Fogelsville Engine 811 and Weisenberg Truck 5131 set up around the building which was set back a few hundred feet from the road.

Kutztown Tanker 46 arrived and set up a dual dump-tank with Weisenberg Tanker 5121.  Schnecskville Pumper-Tanker 2221 drafted out of the ponds and fed the units at the fire building.

Multiple tankers were on scene to shuttle water from a fill site set up at a local industrial park.

Firefighters were on scene well into the morning until the flames were brought under control.  The building was a complete loss but crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the barn.

Units were slowly released throughout the morning hours with the majority of units clearing up just before 5:00 AM.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with an unknown injury.
