Girardville loses block in 4-Alarm fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – In the evening hours of February 23, Girardville firefighters were dipatched to Main Street for a report of a structure fire.  Crews arrived to find a basement fire with light smoke from the rear of the row.  The fire rapidly grew out of control and multiple alarms were requested.  A team of firefighters were trapped in a third floor room when a piece of furniture fell over and blocked their exit and they began to run low on air. Barn destroyed as Lehigh Twp. catches second job of the day

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, PA – As firefighters were picking up from a dwelling fire on Lehigh Drive in Lehigh Township, command noticed a large column of smoke in the distance. Crews went to investigate and found a barn with heavy fire throughout. Check the details on the earlier fire here The second fire was located at 4730 South Cypress Drive, just 0.8 miles from the first fire. Lehigh Township firefighters make quick work of dwelling fire

NORTHAMTPON COUNTY, PA – Firefighters were dispatched to 4555 Lehigh Drive in Lehigh Township for a possible dwelling fire at 6:26 a.m. on Sunday, February 13. The local alarm included Lehigh Township Station 47, Walnutport Truck 4421 (Lehigh County 2931), Allen Township Tender 4531 and Northampton Regional EMS. A caller reported fire on the side of an unoccupied house, and Chief 4751 was advised that it sounded like he was going to encounter a working fire. 4755 quickly confirmed the working fire. Allentown gas explosion kills 5

ALLENTOWN, PA – Shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 residents of Allentown reported a glow in two homes at the corner of North 13th Street and West Allen Street. Moments later the houses exploded. Allentown City Communications began receiving numerous calls regarding the explosion and sent the box. Original units included Battalion 2, Engines 4, 9 and 10 along with Truck 1. Communications reported to Battalion 2 that they had the explosion on the street camera and had a fireball showing. Neffs Volunteer honored for 50 years of service

LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – David Hamm joined the Neffs Volunteer Fire Company in 1961. On Sunday, February 6, 2011, friends, family and fellow firefighters gathered to celebrate David’s 50 years of active service. David joined as a young firefighter and quickly moved up the ranks eventually becoming chief of the company from 1972 to 1983. Aside from serving as chief, David noticed something very early in his fire service career: the need to keep the apparatus in good running order. Tractor trailers collide, close I78 for hours

BERKS COUNTY, PA – During the early morning of February 5, a storm bringing a mix of precipitation moved across Berks County. Roads became wet and a coating of ice quickly followed. At 6:26 a.m. Berks 911 dispatched Companies 33 (Virginville), 44 (Kempton) and 46 (Kutztown), along with EMS 590 (Kutztown) to Interstate 78 Westbound toward mile marker 37.3 in Greenwich Township for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.
