Two large brush fires strike central Schuylkill County

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Around 2:15 PM on Sunday, April 24, the Pottsville Bureau of Fire was dispatched to investigate smoke and a possible brush fire on Peach Mountain Road.  Assistant Chief P-4 went responding and was advised of additional calls reporting a brush fire near Peach Mountain Road and Mountain Drive. Shenandoah makes quick work of house fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 10:21PM on Friday, April 22, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm to 217 West Arlington Street in Shenandoah for a reported house on fire.  The Shenandoah Fire Department was due with Frackville Ladder 43-20, Mahanoy City Rescue 993 and Lost Creek EMS. Heavy fire from Shenandoah dwelling

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Just before 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm assignment to 508 West Mount Vernon Street in Shenandoah for a reported house on fire.  The first alarm included the Shenandoah Fire Department, Mahanoy City West End Rescue 993 and Frackville Ladder 43-20.  Shenandoah EMS was also due on the response. Car carrier hauling Jeeps rolls over in Nesquehoning

CARBON COUNTY, PA – Just after 8:00 AM on Thursday, March 31, Carbon County 9-1-1 dispatched Fire Districts 13 (Nesquehoning) and 11 (Jim Thorpe) to the intersection of State Routes 93 and 209 at the bottom of the Broad Mountain in Nesquehoning for a reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment.  Nesquehoning EMS and Lehighton ALS were also due. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 12:16 PM on Friday, March 25, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm structure assignment to 74 Grier Avenue in Rush Township for a reported house on fire.  The first alarm included Fire Districts 26 (Ryan Twp.), 25 (Rush Township), 27 (Schuylkill Twp. – Tuscarora) and 06 (Delano Twp.).  Altamont Fire and Mahanoy City Fire (Citizens and Good American) were due as well as Polish American Tanker 759 out of Shenandoah. Englewood houses Pierce engine

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, August 3, The Friendship Fire Company of Englewood hosted a housing ceremony for their 2013 Pierce Velocity Engine.  The festivities began with an apparatus parade commencing at 1:00 PM.  Over thirty pieces of apparatus gathered from surrounding communities to celebrate the housing. After the parade, the housing ceremony was emceed by fire company president Bill Blickley.  Plaques were given out to many different people and organization for their contributions over the years including Pierce representatives, the Ladies’ Auxiliary and neighboring fire companies. Commercial fire draws crews from three counties

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 1:08 PM, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Fire District 49, Station 2 (McAdoo Inc.) to Lofty Road in Kline Township for a reported building on fire.  Carbon Engine 2911 (Trescow) and Luzerne Medic 11 (APTS) were also on the initial alarm. First responding crews were advised of multiple reports of an old building on fire on Lofty Road, it was unsure where exactly the building was located.  Police found the fire to be at the old American Cable Recyclers building at 599 Lofty Road in Delano Township. PA firefighters attend memorial service at NFA

EMMITSBURG, MD – Firefighters from all parts of Pennsylvania gathered at the Nation Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland for the PA State Weekend to participate in a weekend full of training and camaraderie.  Class topics ranged from initial company operations to politics and the white hat. On Saturday evening, July 20, attendees assembled in an auditorium in the E Building for a Firefighters’ Memorial Service.  The service started with a procession led by the music of the Highlanders Pipe Band.  Father Bill Glosser from the West End Fire Company, Mahanoy City opened the memorial with a hymn to St. Florian, Patron … Continue reading

Church burns on Mount Saint Mary’s Campus

EMMITSBURG, MD – Around 8:30 PM on Friday, July 19, firefighters from around Pennsylvania were gathered at the National Fire Academy in Maryland for the PA State Weekend of training.  Attendees heard fire whistles in the distance and quickly found out a nearby church was on fire.  A column of smoke could be seen from the Academy grounds. The fire was found to be on the campus of Mount Saint Mary’s University.  The fire appeared to start from a lightning strike during a severe thunderstorm that recently moved through the area. 6 people killed in Pottsville house fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 11:55 PM on Sunday, May 13, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 Transmitted Box 37 for the address of 231 Pierce Street in the City of Pottsville for a reported house fire with entrapment.  Responding units were advised of multiple calls reporting a fire with multiple people trapped within.
