LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – After 4:30 AM Luzerne County 9-1-1 dispatched Hazle Twp. Fire & Rescue along with Harwood Fire and APTS Medic 11 to 1111 North Park Drive in the Humboldt Industrial Park for a commercial structure fire.  Sheppton-Oneida Engine 9-10 was also dispatched out of Schuylkill County.

First responding units were advised of a piece of machinery on fire within the factory that manufactures and packages dog food.  Medic 11 arrived on the scene and confirmed a smoke condition at the B/C corner of the building.  Hazle Twp. Engine 102 arrived on the scene and confirmed the working fire and requested additional tones be hit.  Sheppton Engine 9-10 was directed to back up to 102 and prepare for a reverse lay.

Hazle Twp. Towers 5 & 7 staged with Engine 103 at the B/C corner and sent their manpower into the building.  A leader line was stretched off 102 and a hi-rise pack was deployed into the building.  Crews found fire in a piece of machinery to the rear of the building.  A second line was also stretched.

Hazle Twp. Tanker 106 nursed their water into the engine.  The fire was knocked down and placed under control within an hour and crews began to ventilate through natural openings.  The smoke was cleared by 6:00 AM and crews began to pick up.
