Man rescued from vehicle accident in Shenandoah

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 3:30 PM on Tuesday, September 24, Shenandoah ALS and a Shenandoah Fire Department Chief were dispatched to 200 East Centre Street in Shenandoah for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  The initial calls reported a two vehicle accident with vehicles still in the roadway.

While responding, the call was upgraded to an accident with entrapment dispatching the Shenandoah Fire Department and Mahanoy City West End Fire Company for Rescue 993.  Medic 6403 and Marshal 742 arrived on the scene to find two vehicles in the roadway with minor damage to both.  One driver was still confined in one of the vehicles.  Marshal 742 quickly cancelled the rescue.

Squrt 745 and Engine 742 arrived and began to stabilize the vehicle while EMS began to attend to his injuries.  Once stabilized, the glass from the passenger side was removed and the driver’s door was cut off the vehicle.  The patient was extricated onto a backboard and loaded into the ambulance.

The ambulance took the patient to the Shenandoah helipad where he was flown to a local trauma center by LifeFlight 5.  Tanker 759 handled the landing zone.
