Mahanoy City makes quick hit on house fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 7:33 PM on Wednesday, June 20, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the Mahanoy City Fire Department, Frackville Ladder 43-20 and Altamont fire company for their RIT to 24 West Spruce Street in Mahanoy City for a reported house fire.

Citizens Tower 456 was the first rig on the street and was given additional that police were on scene reporting smoke showing and oxygen cylinders inside.  The Tower arrived on the scene and Lieutenant 456 (Shapanksy) gave a size-up of a two story, end of row with smoke showing from the second floor.

Citizens Engine 454 secured a water supply at Main and Spruce while Humane Engine 451 secured a water supply to the rear.  While the engines were arriving, the truck crew entered the building for a primary search.  The search turned up negative but crews located the fire in the living room of the home.  The fire was quickly knocked with a water can.

While the truck crew was performing their search,  an attack line was pulled off Engine 454 and advanced into the structure.  A back-up line was pulled off Engine 451.  The engine crew hydraulically ventilated the living room to help crews with overhaul.

The incident was scaled back to only units from Mahanoy City and the fire was placed under control within twenty minutes.  Firefighters remained on scene and investigated the fire until after 9:00 PM.  One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
