One killed in Nurermberg rollover

LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – One person was killed in an overnight accident outside Nuremberg.  Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Nuremberg-Weston Fire and Nuremberg EMS to 318 Hazle Street, Black Creek Township for a vehicle accident with unknown injuries just after 8:30AM on Saturday, June 2.

Deputy Chief 582 arrived on the scene and found the accident to be off the Nuremberg by-pass.  The chief found a single vehicle accident with one vehicle on its roof and down an embankment.  Upon further assessment, it was found that a person was still in the vehicle. The call was quickly upgraded to an entrapment which added Shenandoah ALS.

 

Engine/Rescue 582 and Engine 583 responded with Ambulance 980 and Medic 6402.  Crews descended the hill and popped the door for a better assessment.  At this time, it was determined that the patient was deceased.  A county coroner was notified to respond to the scene.

Once the investigation was complete, the vehicle was up-righted for an easier extrication.  Crews used the spreaders and o-cutters to break the mangled metal away from the deceased.  Extrication was completed with in 15 minutes.  A stokes on a haul system was used to move the body up to the road.

It was determined the accident happened sometime overnight but it is not sure when. Police were investigating.  Fire police kept the by-pass closed throughout the incident.  All units were clear within two and a half hours.
