Fire destroys Hanover Twp. garage

NORTHAMTPON COUNTY, PA – Just before 7PM on Sunday, March 27, Northampton County 911 dispatched Fire and EMS 15 (Hanover Twp.) to 3930 Post Drive in Hanover Twp. for a reported garage fire attached to a dwelling.

Captain 1554 went responding and advised he had smoke in the area. Chief 1551 was advised on the conditions and requested an engine from Fire 53 (Hecktown). 1554 arrived on the scene, confirmed a worker and established Fire 15 Command. Command advised an engine would be the first piece to respond. Units from Fire 14 (Nancy Run) and 17 (Bethlehem Twp.) were also requested. An ALS unit from EMS 17 (Bethlehem Twp.) was requested.

1551 arrived and assumed the command. He reported a working fire in a garage attached to a single family dwelling with heavy fire in the garage extending into the house. With the report, Lehigh County Station 2 (Catasauqua) was dispatched for their Rapid Intervention Team.

Engine 1513 was the first unit to arrive and stretched a 2.5” hand line and began a blitz attack with the deck gun. Engine 1512 and Tower 1521 arrived and were directed to assist in the fire attack. Two inch and three quarter hand lines were stretched to assist in the attack. Engine 1513 also secured a water supply.

Rescue 241 arrived as RIT and staged the team at the A/D corner. Hecktown Engine 5311 and Nancy Run Tower 1421 staged on Post Drive and sent their manpower to the A side.

With the aggressive attack, the fire was knocked down in minutes. Crews entered the attached dwelling and began to pull ceiling and found some minor extension which was quickly contained. Although the fire was quickly knocked down, the damage to the garage and its contents was extensive.

Two people were in the residence at the time of the fire, but both escaped without injury. No injuries to firefighters were noted. The fire did not appear to be suspicious.
