Ashland fire brings in two alarms

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 03:18 AM on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the Ashland Fire Department to 1438 Market Street in Ashland for smoke in a dwelling.  Shortly after the dispatched Ashland PD arrived in the area with heavy smoke in the intersection.  The box was quickly upgraded for the dwelling fire.

An Ashland line officer arrived on the scene with fire in the third floor of a two unit row home.  With smoke and fire visible, a second alarm was requested.  The second alarm brought the Rangers of Girardville, Englewood RIT, Gordon, Altamont and Anthracite out of Mount Carmel.

Firefighters began to stretch lines in the street and tried to knock the fire from the exterior of the building.  After some quick work, an interior attack was initiated.  A crew from Truck 38-25 went to the roof to vertically ventilate.  Heavy fire and smoke continued to pour from the third floor.  After venting the roof, crews re-initiated an exterior attack on the third floor and began to darken down the fire.  The bulk of fire was knocked down within 45 minutes.

The fire was officially put under control just over an hour after the incident began.  One male was transported to a local hospital with smoke inhalation.  Another male was taken into custody by PD for further questioning regarding the fire.
