Occupants luckily escape serious injury in Sheppton

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 12:15 PM on Saturday, December 31, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Sheppton-Oneida Fire / Rescue, Nuremberg EMS and Luzerne County Medic 11 to the intersection of Center Street (SR 924) and Green Mountain Road in East Union Township for a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Sheppton Engine-Rescue 9-10 went responding and was advised of a two vehicle accident at the entrance to the industrial park with injuries – unknown extent.  The engine-rescue arrived on the scene to find one sedan on a curb and a minivan still in the northbound lane of travel with people scattered throughout a grassy hill.  Captain 9-92 (Neikam) assumed East Union Command.

The engine crew spilt up and quickly worked to assess the patients, control hazards and direct traffic.  A large fluid spill was noted and contained using oil dry.  The Captain assessed the patients and found minor injuries with a few refusals.  The rest of the crew worked to direct an increased amount of traffic due to the holiday.  Luzerne Medic 11 arrived on the scene and further assessed the patients.

Nuremberg Ambulances 971 and 980 arrived on scene and assisted the Medic 11 crew.  Multiple refusals were obtained by EMS.  Two people were transported to the hospital in a minor condition.

Fire crews remained on scene for just under an hour while the Pennsylvania State Police investigated the accident and towing crews were able to remove the vehicles.
