Car crashes in front of fire station

LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – At 5:25 AM on Tuesday, October 11, Lehigh County Radio dispatched Engine 2211 (Schnecksville), Rescue 2241, EMS Station 67 (Northern Valley) and North Whitehall Rescue Personnel to State Route 309 in the area of Education Park Drive for a motor vehicle accident with rescue.

Chief 2201 went responding and was advised of a single vehicle accident involving a pole with one male trapped in the vehicle.  Additional reports said the male was conscious and his lower extremities were trapped.  Captain 2204 radioed that the accident was actually south the dispatched location putting it directly in front of Station 22.

Rescue 2241 and Engine 2211 responded across the street and found the single vehicle with heavy front end damage and a male still in the vehicle.  EMS arrived on scene and began to assess the patient.  Route 309 command was established by Chief 2201.

After a quick assessment, it was determined the patient could be extricated without the use of hydraulic rescue tools.  The male was immobilized and moved to a back board.  The patient was loaded into the ambulance and transported to a trauma center with unknown injuries.

The vehicle struck a pole that was part of the traffic control device for the fire station.  PPL Utilities were requested to the scene as wires were down in the area.  Traffic was diverted around the scene for just under two hours before the incident was cleared.
