SWT rescues one with serious injuries

LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – Firefighters and rescue workers were summoned to the intersection of Mauch Chunk Road and Overlook Road for a motor vehicle accident with rescue around 6:45 AM on Monday, June 20.  South Whitehall Township Stations 32 (Woodlawn) and 62 (Cetronia EMS) were dispatched along with Rescue 1141 (Greenwalds).

Chief 3201 went responding and was advised of a two vehicle accident with one vehicle on its roof with one person inside and unconscious.  The chief was then advised that South Whitehall Police were on the scene reporting the accident to be in the City of Allentown.  South Whitehall crews were instructed by Allentown Communications to continue to scene and handle the incident.

 

First arriving officers found a two car accident with a sport utility vehicle on its side with the driver entrapped.  Chief 3201 assumed 32 Command and instructed Engine 3212 position itself just behind the accident and Rescue 1141 pull next to 3212.

 

Personnel quickly stabilized the vehicle on its side and gained access through the rear door.  The patient was extricated and turned over to medical crews.  The patient was transported to a local trauma facility with serious injuries.

Firefighters assisted in extricating the other driver who was also transported by EMS with moderate injuries.  Both patients were extricated within fifteen minutes of arrival.

 

Police remained on scene for a portion of the morning investigating the crash.  Allentown Fire Police were requested to aid with traffic control.
