Second alarm called to Sugarloaf fire

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. – Around 3:40 PM on Sunday, September 29, Luzerne County 9-1-1 dispatched Sugarloaf Fire and EMS to 110 Lakeview Drive in Sugarloaf Township for a reported house fire.

177 Chief was on-air shortly after dispatch and reported a column visible from a few miles away and requested the second alarm be added.

The second alarm included units from Valley Regional, Hazle Twp., Nuremberg-Weston, Hobbie, Foster Twp. and Mahanoy City RIT.

Firefighters arrived to find fire on the “C” side second floor exterior being controlled by a garden hose and smoke showing from the “A” side. 116 Engine 3 and 177 Engine 3 secured water supplies on their way in as crews stretched a line through the front door off 177 Engine 2.

A second line was stretched to the front door as Hazle Twp. Tower 7 arrived on the scene and was sent to the roof.

The interior conditions rapidly improved once the roof was opened allowing the smoke and steam to exit into the afternoon sky. An exhaust fan was hung from the front door as the bulk of the fire had been knocked down.

Crews had the fire under control within 20 minutes but remained on scene into the evening. A State Police Fire Marshal was requested in to the scene.
