Shenandoah firefighters find trash fire in vacant building

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 4:48 PM on Saturday, May 6, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the Shenandoah Fire Department to the area of South Vine and West Cherry Streets in the borough for a trash fire.

Crews arrived on the scene to find tires and other debris on fire in the basement of a vacant brick building once used in a mining operation behind Boyer’s Food Market.

Brush 750 and Engine 742 responded to the scene.  Crews initially tried to knock down the flames using a line off the brush truck but determined more water would be needed.

Engine 742 was moved closer to the building and began to use their deck gun to plow water into the basement.

After using the deck gun from 742, the fire was extinguished and crews were clear of the scene approximately one hour after arriving on scene.
