Driver ejected from pick-up in North Union

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 0001 hours on Sunday, July 17, Nuremberg-Weston Fire was dispatched to Buck Mountain Road at Truhan Lane for a vehicle crash with ejection. Engine 582 and 583 responded and were advised of a vehicle rollover with at least one person ejected and aeromedical on standby.

Both engines arrived to find a large debris field approaching the scene from a pick-up truck that appeared to rollover multiple times before coming to rest off the roadway in a wooded area.  Crews quickly found one patient that had been ejected around 50 feet from the vehicle.  Engine 582 requested a flight to transport the patient as it appeared he had serious injuries and was unconscious.

Engine 583 gathered its crew and made its way to the Nuremberg Park to set up a landing zone for incoming MedEvac 4.

The Engine 582 crew treated the patient and packaged him for transport until the arrival of APTS Medic 11.  The patient was then loaded up and ALS interventions were initiated; Valley Regional Medic 26 arrived on the scene and assisted with patient care.  The Engine crew then searched the area to ensure there were no other patients thrown from the vehicle.

As Medic 11 began transport to the landing zone, MedEvac 4 began to ask for an ETA of the patient to the LZ as fog was beginning to roll in to the valley.  The patient arrived at the scene and the flight crew entered the back of the rig.  As they entered the rig, the chopper lit up and took off and headed back to Hazleton.  Medic 11 continued transport to Hazleton where they reunited with the helicopter and the patient was flown to a trauma center in Allentown.

Engine 582 remained on the scene while the Pennsylvania State Police arrived on the scene and began to investigate the crash.
