Mahanoy City finds dwelling well involved on arrival

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 5:50 AM on Thursday, October 27, the Mahanoy City Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 10 North 8th Street in the borough for a reported house on fire.  Frackville Ladder 43-20 and Mahanoy City EMS were also due. Assistant Chief 455 was the first officer on air and was advised on multiple calls reporting a house on fire with a car still in the driveway.  The chief was on scene shortly after reporting a two story, wood frame detached dwelling with heavy fire throughout.  The status of occupants was unknown. Tremont hosts 2016 Schuylkill County Convention

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – The Tremont Fire Company was the host of the 62nd Annual Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters Association Convention over the last week finishing off with a large parade of fire apparatus, bands, floats and other entries.  The parade kicked off at 1PM and traveled through the streets of Tremont.  After the parade was complete, attendees gathered at the fire company for a party and to receive awards for the best apparatus in attendance. Mahanoy Area mock DUI accident

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Two cars collide, multiple teenagers are trapped in the vehicles, one teenager is thrown from the back seat through the windshield – she is dead on the hood.  A distraught mother rushes into the scene as first responders arrive.  The police arrest the driver of one vehicle, he was driving while impaired and more than likely created this disaster.  The poor decision of one person just affected dozens, if not hundreds of lives. Llewellyn fire destroys commercial building

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Early on Monday, November 12 Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched fire units to the old China Inn on Route 209 in Llewellyn for a commercial structure fire.  Units arrived on scene to find a working fire in the basement that was quickly progressing throughout the building.  As hoses were being stretched crews experienced a water supply issue with a hydrant.  Multiple tanker task forces were dispatched to the scene.  Fire crews worked throughout the night to contain the fire and were finally cleared of the scene after daylight broke. Orwigsburg celebrates 125 years

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, October 13, the Friendship Hose Company #1 of Orwigsburg celebrated 125 years of service to the community.  The festivities were kicked off with an apparatus parade through the borough.  Residents came out to wave to firefighters and check out the units from throughout Schuylkill County.  After the parade, visiting firefighters and residents came to the firehouse and enjoyed food and refreshments along with music provided by a disc jockey.  A small ceremony was emceed by Jesse Zimmerman, 1st Assistant Chief.  Zimmerman thanked everyone in attendance as well as the residents and government leaders for … Continue reading

Ashland hits second alarm for three dwellings

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Around 10:45 AM on Friday, September 14, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched District 38 (Ashland Fire) to 1222 Spruce Street in Ashland for a reported house fire.  Ashland police were advised of the possible fire and Unit 41 arrived on the scene in seconds confirming a working fire.  PD stated flames and smoke were showing from the residence. Ashland Asst. Schuylkill Historical Fire Society holds annual muster

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – The Schuylkill Historical Fire Society held its annual muster at the Schuylkill County Fire Academy on Sunday, September 9.  Participating apparatus started off the day with a parade from the Schuylkill Mall through Frackville and onto the training grounds.  The parade entered the Academy by passing under an arch made by retired ladders from Tamaqua and Shenandoah. Multiple engines then set up around the large pond that is on the training campus to begin their drafting operations.  Over a dozen engines began to flow water and show off their apparatus to children and fire buffs alike. … Continue reading
