3rd alarm struck for the Eckley Miners Village

LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – Around 11:15 AM on Tuesday, June 4, Luzerne County 9-1-1 dispatched units to the Eckley Miners Village for a commercial fire alarm.  While enroute, additional reports were received of a working fire in a residential structure within the historic village.

Medic 11B reported he could see smoke from miles away while enroute.  A second alarm was put on standby and quickly requested to respond to the scene.  Freeland Ladder arrived on scene and found a working fire in as single family dwelling.  The ladder took the address while Freeland Engine 55 positioned behind the truck.  Foster Twp. engine positioned in front of the ladder.

Crews encountered heavy fire to the rear of the building.  Multiple lines were stretched while Hazle Twp. Engine 103 set up a dump site.  Tankers began a water shuttle to supplement the hydrant system in the village.

The bulk of fire was knocked down within 30 minutes.  A third alarm was requested into the scene for additional manpower.  The fire was placed under control and mutual aid units were released by early afternoon.
