Firefighters make quick work of Brownsville shed fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. – Around 7:40 PM on Sunday, January 8, William Penn Fire was dispatched to 1159 West Centre Street in the Brownsville section of West Mahanoy Township for a smoke investigation.

Chief 888 was advised of smoke possibly coming from the roof of a shed next to this residence.  The Chief requested his engine be added to the response.

Shortly after, Engine 888 arrived on scene and confirmed a working shed fire and the box was filled out.  The first alarm included the remainder of West Mahanoy Township, Shenandoah (SQ745 & E742), Girardville 45-10 and Mahanoy City Rescue 993.

A line was stretched off Engine 888 to the small shed which was located a few feet from the house.  Squrt 745 was next in and stretched a second line.  The Squrt also threw a ladder to the roof where personnel went up to open up and check for extension.

Firefighters had the fire knocked down within minutes of arriving on scene and scaled the response back to West Mahanoy units and the Squrt.

Crews remained on scene performing overhaul  before clearing the scene around 8:30 PM.
