Fire damages Mount Carmel bank

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, PA – Northumberland County 9-1-1 dispatched the 1st alarm for a commercial building fire at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 31 West 3rd Street in Mount Carmel around 5:45 AM on Saturday, October 29.  The Mount Carmel Fire Department, Rescue and Fire Police, were due on the box as well as AREA EMS and Shamokin Fire units.

First arriving units found fire showing from the from roof of the multiple story bank building.  A second alarm was immediately struck bringing in additional units from Coal Township, Atlas, Kulpmont, Ashland, Frackville and Englewood.

Engine 3 arrived on the scene and took the A/D corner; while establishing a water supply, a firefighter quickly climbed to the top of the rig and began to use the deck gun to knock down the fire.  Truck 2 positioned at the A/B corner of the building and began to set up for aerial operations while Engine 2 secured an additional water supply from the East side of the incident.  Engine 1 approached the scene on Maple Street.

Shamokin Truck 32 arrived on scene and flew its stick to the roof from Maple Street directly in front of Engine 1.  Ashland Ladder 38-25 positioned behind 32 and likewise flew their stick to the roof.  After first arriving crews knocked down the exterior fire, crews ascended the ladders and went to work on the roof and extinguished any remaining fire.

With the quick action of first arriving crews, the fire was held mainly to the front facade of the building and the roof with limited damage inside the building.  The remaining units from Schuylkill County responded in under caution and staged on 3rd Street before they were released around 6:30AM.  The fire was placed under control and 1st alarm units remained on the scene mopping up the fire.  All units were available after 8AM.
