Hazleton douses basement fire

LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – After 5PM on Thursday, July 14, the Hazleton City Fire Department and APTS Medic 11 were dispatched to 640 Monges Street in the City for a reported structure fire.

First responding units were advised of a caller reporting a basement fire and everyone was evacuating the structure.  The Duty Chief arrived on the scene to find a two and a half single family dwelling with nothing showing from the exterior.  Upon further investigation, a fire was discovered in the basement and a working fire was declared.

Engine 2 and Ladder 1 arrived on the scene and stretched a line into the basement.  Pipeline 4 backed into the scene to prepare for a reverse lay to a nearby hydrant.  Interior firefighters put a quick knock on the fire and gave the go ahead for other crews to begin ventilation. Crews checked the entire residence for extension before marking the fire under control and breaking down their equipment.
