Englewood fire quickly knocked down

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 2:22 AM on Monday, January 27, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Butler Twp. (Englewood and Fountain Springs) to 717 West John Street in the Englewood section of the township for a reported house on fire.  Frackville and Altamont fire were also on the first alarm assignment.

Engine 369 went responding and was advised the caller was reporting fire on the side of a house.  The engine arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire with fire showing from the D side of the duplex.  Chief 366 (Chaklos) took command of the incident.  A line was stretched and all hands went to work.

Ladder 43-20 nosed in to the engine from the West and put the stick to the roof.  Altamont Engine 367 also came in from the West and secured a water supply.  Engine 43-15 secured a water supply and positioned behind the Englewood engine.

A second alarm was dispatched into the scene for additional manpower.  Crews continued to work and knocked the bulk of the fire down within twenty minutes.  Shenandoah Ladder 745 and Mahanoy City Rescue 993 arrived as part of the second alarm and assisted with overhaul.  Pottsville Stations 30 & 40 stood by as a Rapid Intervention Team.

The fire was placed under control within the hour of the original dispatch.  The Butler Twp. Fire Marshal was on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.  Shenandoah ALS stood by on the scene.
