Sheppton Mine Disaster Historical Marker Dedication
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – 52 years ago, three men became trapped underground in a coal mine in Sheppton. Those men, David Fellin, Henry Throne and Louis Bova were trapped in a mine off Schoolhouse Road. Two of the men, Fellin and Throne, were found to be alive and a rescue effort soon began. The event gained national attention as this was the first rescue attempt of its kind. A borehole was used in an attempt to rescue the miners. Quick knock on Tresckow house fire
CARBON COUNTY, PA – Around 6:30 AM on Monday, August 17, Carbon County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm to 14 West Cherry Street in Tresckow for a dwelling fire. Carbon Districts 29 (Tresckow), 21 (Beaver Meadows) and 20 (Weatherly) were on the assignment as well as Schuylkill County Districts 49 (McAdoo) and 25 (Hometown) and Luzerne Districts 141 (Hazle Twp.) and 183 (West Hazleton). First arriving units found a two story single family dwelling with smoke showing. Ladder 49-22 took the address while Engine 2911 took the A/B Corner. 2015 Schuylkill County Firefighters Convention Parade
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, August 15, the 61st Schuylkill County Firefighters Convention concluded with a grand parade in Shenandoah. The Convention was hosted by the Polish American Fire Company #4 who is also celebrating 100 years of service to the community. The morning began with parade registration held at the fire company at the intersection of Centre and West Streets. From there, participants moved to a judging station for each type of apparatus. 2nd alarm for overnight Ashland fire
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Just before midnight on Friday, July 31, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Fire District 38 (Ashland) and District 45 (Girardville) to the area of 3rd Street and Middle Street for a reported building on fire. Chief 38 was advised upon responding that Ashland police were on scene with smoke showing from the building next to the Ashland Grille. Chief 38 arrived on the scene and quickly confirmed a working job with fire showing; a second alarm was requested in to the scene.
