SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, May 13, Schuylkill County firefighters gathered at the Schuylkill County Fire Training Grounds in West Mahanoy Township to participate in the final session of PA State Fire Academy “On the Road” Flashover Survival and Recognition. The session began at 8 AM when firefighters from Pottsville, Port Carbon, Schuylkill Haven, Sheppton-Oneida, Orwigsburg and Mahanoy City gathered in one of the classrooms on the school grounds to listen to a two hour lecture about fire behavior and flashover. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Two cars collide, multiple teenagers are trapped in the vehicles, one teenager is thrown from the back seat through the windshield – she is dead on the hood. A distraught mother rushes into the scene as first responders arrive. The police arrest the driver of one vehicle, he was driving while impaired and more than likely created this disaster. The poor decision of one person just affected dozens, if not hundreds of lives. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Over the last two weeks, firefighters from throughout Schuylkill County gathered to train on pump operations. The class was held at Ringtown Valley Fire/Rescue, Aristes Fire and Sheppton-Oneida Fire. Attendees learned or brushed up on their skills of drafting, using hydrants and using tank water to supply hand lines and master streams. The class was instructed by Mike Kitsock and Joe “Blackie” Kufrovich. A Pumps II class is scheduled for August. Click here for the entire photo gallery!
LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – Members of the community came together on Sunday, May 15, to enjoy a fun-filled day at the Northern Valley Ambulance Open House. Attendees were treated to demonstrations, games, food and other information. Starting at 1PM, children were able to play games within the station or go outside and look at a group of fire trucks and ambulances. In one demonstration, members of the Neffs Volunteer Fire Company raised their aerial and rappelled from the bucket.
