Sheppton Mine Disaster Historical Marker Dedication

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – 52 years ago, three men became trapped underground in a coal mine in Sheppton.  Those men, David Fellin, Henry Throne and Louis Bova were trapped in a mine off Schoolhouse Road.  Two of the men, Fellin and Throne, were found to be alive and a rescue effort soon began.  The event gained national attention as this was the first rescue attempt of its kind.  A borehole was used in an attempt to rescue the miners.  After two long weeks, the two men were brought to the surface.  Unfortunately, Louis Bova was never recovered.  As a result … Continue reading

Quick knock on Tresckow house fire

CARBON COUNTY, PA – Around 6:30 AM on Monday, August 17, Carbon County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm to 14 West Cherry Street in Tresckow for a dwelling fire.  Carbon Districts 29 (Tresckow), 21 (Beaver Meadows) and 20 (Weatherly) were on the assignment as well as Schuylkill County Districts 49 (McAdoo) and 25 (Hometown) and Luzerne Districts 141 (Hazle Twp.) and 183 (West Hazleton). 2015 Schuylkill County Firefighters Convention Parade

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, August 15, the 61st Schuylkill County Firefighters Convention concluded with a grand parade in Shenandoah.  The Convention was hosted by the Polish American Fire Company #4 who is also celebrating 100 years of service to the community. The morning began with parade registration held at the fire company at the intersection of Centre and West Streets.  From there, participants moved to a judging station for each type of apparatus.  The judging stations were spread throughout the borough. 2nd alarm for overnight Ashland fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Just before midnight on Friday, July 31, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Fire District 38 (Ashland) and District 45 (Girardville) to the area of 3rd Street and Middle Street for a reported building on fire. Chief 38 was advised upon responding that Ashland police were on scene with smoke showing from the building next to the Ashland Grille.  Chief 38 arrived on the scene and quickly confirmed a working job with fire showing; a second alarm was requested in to the scene. Two injured in three vehicle crash

LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – Shortly before 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 21, Luzerne County 9-1-1 dispatched West Hazleton Fire & EMS with APTS Medic 11 to the unit block of East Broad Street for a motor vehicle crash with fluids down and unknown injuries. 183 Engine 2 and Medic 11c responded to the scene and found one vehicle had crashed in to two parked vehicles which were now pushed onto the sidewalk.  Firefighters began to check the vehicles for hazards while EMS found a patient with knee pain.  A second patient was found to need EMS and a second BLS … Continue reading

Shenandoah makes quick hit on fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 4:01 PM on Monday, July 20, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the Shenandoah Fire Department, Shenandoah ALS and Mahanoy City Rescue 993 (West End) to 130 East Coal Street in Shenandoah for smoke in a house. Units responding were advised that the call was being upgraded to a house fire as a report of a grease fire in the kitchen was received.  Medic 6403 arrived on the scene and confirmed a working fire with smoke showing from the single family dwelling. Female dies in fire outside St. Clair

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Around 6:30 AM, the Saint Clair Fire Department was dispatched to 321 Chestnut Street in the Arnots Addition section of New Castle Township for a reported house on fire with entrapment. Chief 700B went responding and was advised 9-1-1 got a call from a female stating her house was on fire and “she was burning up.”  Chief 700B reported he had smoke showing from a distance.  Pottsville City Stations 40 and 70 were added to the response. Fire destroys New Coxeville garage

CARBON COUNTY, PA – Just after 2:30 AM on Wednesday, July 8, Carbon County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm assignment to 1114 Berwick Street (State Route 93) in the Village of Coxeville, Banks Township for a garage on fire. First arriving units found a one and a half story detached garage with heavy fire showing from the upper floor.  Tresckow and Beaver Meadows both positioned their engines near the front of the building while McAdoo Lader 49-22 took the front of the building. Carbon house fire brings extra tankers

CARBON COUNTY, PA – Around 7:30 AM on Thursday, July 2, Carbon County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm to 917 Railroad Drive in Packer Township for a dwelling fire. First arriving units found a working fire that was rapidly progressing.  A second alarm plus a tanker task force was requested in to the scene.
